Most high school students feel the way I do in school ; bored, tired, and ready to leave.

Don’t get me wrong, school isn’t that horrible. You get to see your friends all day and get to learn new stuff.

The problem with the high school system is that they train you to only memorize things like that of a robot. So by the the time your a junior in high school, all of the fun of learning new things is drained out of you. Instead, it’s all about grades and test scores. One type of test for an entire class is like teaching a class of cats and fish how to climb a tree.

In high school learning is kind of a second priority. Students worry about are grades and scores so much because they determine the opportunities we will get in life.

Another flaw in the school system is that there are just too many classes being taught at once. Going to 6 different classes and trying to memorize 6 different concepts in one day is just too much for one person to grasp. In addition, it is very stressful to have 6 different subjects to do each homework for each night and 6 different tests to study for.  It doesn’t help that most of the classes you take when you are an upperclassman don’t contribute to what you want to do when you go to college or start your job out of high school.

Getting up extremely early is a problem, too. When kids wake up at 6:30 in the morning, they are usually still in zombie mode until about 10:00 a.m. There are proven studies that suggest that when students get more sleep and start the school day later their academic performance is boosted. You’d think schools would incorporate this into the system, but it makes too much sense.

Along with waking up early, students sit down for too long during the day. Sitting down for 6 plus hours in the day breaks concentration in school. Studies have proven that the more you use your body and your senses in the classroom, the better you perform in school. Not connecting to your body for long periods of time is not normal. The body needs to move to properly concentrate. Schools should use more progressive methods to get students moving in the classroom such as outside class lectures.

There is a lack of communication between the kids and teachers at school, and that is a big problem.  All day kids have to listen to teachers ramble on, yet the school board or school itself rarely listens to a student’s opinion on a matter involving school reform.
